Looking for green photo location in Arizona?
I had a client reach out to me looking for green and tall grass in Arizona... in July... If you are from Arizona you know this can be a little bit of an impossible task but I will do whatever to make my clients happy.
In Gilbert, Arizona there is the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. This is a large area filled with multiple ponds, walk ways, animals, and most importantly it is very green!
I love this location for photoshoot! It has a bunch of different backdrop areas and you can easy do a full hour photoshoot here and feel like you went to multiple locations without having to walk far!
We did a 18th birthday photoshoot at this location. The inspiration pictures I was given were very much in a field with tall grass and being surrounded by green. I have been to the Riparian many times but I made sure to scout the location the day before the shoot to find the greenest spots and to create an easy path of different areas we could photograph at and what the light would look like at each spot. Making this map made sure I prioritized the areas that were a little more on the brown/ yellow side for true golden hour, that way the plants lit up and gave an airy whimsical feel. I also planned to be in front of the lake at the end of the shoot to get the best look on the water, (and to hopefully have the fisherman out of the shot!).
Also a great location for family photos.
Looking for a beautiful location for family photos in Gilbert, Arizona? The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is an amazing spot for family portraits! With plenty of greenery, trees, walking paths, and different backdrops close together, it’s a great location for families with kids who want to have fun during their photoshoot.
I took these family photos in August, and you can see that even with the Arizona heat, the park can still look beautiful and lush! While I love this location in the summer, fall and winter are also great times to plan family photos in Arizona.
One of my favorite things about family sessions is getting everyone to relax and have fun together. We spent this session twirling, running, climbing, cuddling, and even pretending to be airplanes! Everyone had so much fun with the prompts, especially the youngest daughter. These little moments made it easy to capture candid photos of everyone smiling, laughing, and enjoying time together.
Family photos don’t need to be stiff or feel like you’re posing for an hour. I love mixing in a few posed portraits with fun prompts that let your family interact naturally. The goal is to capture those genuine smiles, silly moments, and little connections that show off your family’s personality.
If you’re looking for a family photography location in the East Valley, the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert offers a beautiful mix of natural scenery and room to let kids be kids. It’s one of those locations where we can explore different backdrops without having to walk far, giving your gallery plenty of variety while keeping the session fun and relaxed!
Want to Get Creative? Spooky Photoshoots at the Riparian Preserve
Looking for creative photoshoot ideas in Arizona? The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert isn't just a great location for family portraits and senior photos. It can also be the perfect setting for something a little darker and more dramatic!
As part of my October photo challenge, Snaptober, I created a series of photoshoots inspired by a different prompt word every day throughout the month. For this particular shoot, the prompt was murder.
I wanted to create something dark, eerie, and cinematic, and the Riparian Preserve was the perfect setting. At night, the mesquite trees start to look twisted and almost creepy, while the dark paths and shadows create an entirely different atmosphere than you would see during a daytime photoshoot.
For this shoot, my model wore an evening gown as if she had just left a fancy party. She carried an old lantern with a candle that was almost burned out, adding to the feeling that something wasn't quite right.
We created a series of cinematic images telling a story through the photos. Some showed her looking out over the lake, with the lantern providing the only light. Others captured her running toward and away from the camera, followed by the aftermath of her being “attacked.” By using dramatic lighting and different compositions, we were able to create a much darker, more mysterious feel than you might expect from this location.
I love how much you can change the look and feel of a photoshoot simply by changing the lighting, styling, and story you're trying to tell. The Riparian Preserve offers so many possibilities beyond traditional portraits, making it a fun location for creative photoshoots in Gilbert, Arizona.
If you're looking for Halloween photoshoot ideas, want to bring a creative concept to life, or have a character or story you've always wanted to photograph, don't be afraid to think outside the box! Sometimes, an ordinary location can become something completely different when you approach it with a little imagination.
A Great Spot to Build Your Cosplay World!
The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch in Gilbert is a hidden gem in the desert for cosplay photography! With its greenery, wooded paths, and variety of natural backdrops, you can create so many different worlds here. Whether you're going for fantasy, mystery, horror, or just a wooded setting, this location has so much potential for bringing your character to life.
For this photoshoot, I photographed a model dressed as Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, complete with a full costume and fake facial hair! We decided to have some fun with the character and play off a part in one of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies where Shaggy has a female body but his face. This gave us the perfect opportunity to get creative with the poses and play around with some funny character moments.
Of course, we couldn't do a Scooby-Doo photoshoot without a few extra details! The model brought her dog along, and we dressed him up with a Scooby-Doo collar. We also brought a lantern, a magnifying glass, and a Ghost Face mask to help bring the mystery-solving theme to life. These props gave us so many fun ways to play around with the character and create photos that felt like they belonged in the Scooby-Doo universe.
One of my favorite things about cosplay photography is that you aren't limited to traditional portraits. You get to step into a character's world, play with different poses, and create images that tell a story. Having a location with multiple backdrops makes that process even more fun, especially when you're trying to capture a specific character or scene.
If you're looking for a cosplay photographer in Arizona or trying to find unique Gilbert photography locations for your next character shoot, don't overlook the Riparian Preserve! It's such a fun place to experiment with different concepts, and you might be surprised by how easily you can transform this desert location into an entirely different world.
Nature lover?
If you are a nature lover and want to get some wildlife photography I highly recommend coming to this spot! It is an oasis in the desert!
It is next to the Gilbert Public Library, I highly recommend checking out and supporting that library, it is beyond beautiful and they hold a lot of amazing classes there! They do bird watching there where you can learn all about the beautiful native bird and their habitat.
Maybe birds are not your thing but space is? They have a observatory there and do weekly star gazing!
The best thing, this is all free! It is beautiful, you can learn, and you support a public space.
