Do you hear the call of the siren?


I have had the idea of doing a siren/mermaid photoshoot forever. I spoke with the model, Bri, and some other friends about doing a huge, feminine, mermaid photoshoot. Life happened, and we could not make the plans with multiple mermaids work.


So, months later, when the weather started getting warmer again, Bri and I decided we would make the shoot work, and if more people showed up, great; if not, we were going to make art!


Arizona was unusually hot in March this year, so we decided to take advantage of the heat and plan an early morning photoshoot at the Salt River. Of course, the one day we planned to do this, it was cold, overcast, and windy! Bri and I had woken up at 4 am to get ready and make it to the river, so we said we ignored the goosebumps and got in the water!


Bri created her mermaid outfit. The tail is a two-part skirt that she made! The only thing with a mermaid tail is that it is hard to walk in, so her husband had to pick her up and bring her everywhere, which is fitting for a mermaid!


For the photoshoot, I made three different mermaid crowns. Each crown was a slightly different color but made out of shells. I also made a compact mirror with scallop shells, a mirror fit for a mermaid, a brush, chalices, and hair clips.


Bri and I were both in the water, shivering to get these photos. We definitely think it was worth it for the art!
