For Snaptober Day 7, the prompt was Chosen One.
I knew exactly which cosplay I wanted to share: Snow White reimagined as Luke Skywalker from Star Wars!
I photographed this incredible Disney meets Star Wars cosplay at Phoenix Fan Fusion while capturing the event and its amazing cosplayers. I'd never seen someone mash up Disney and Star Wars quite like this before, and the creativity immediately caught my attention.
What made the concept even better was that she was part of a group of four cosplayers who transformed Disney characters into Star Wars-inspired designs. The group included the Evil Queen and Ursula as Sith Lords, alongside their heroic counterparts, Ariel and Snow White. Seeing all four characters together made the crossover feel complete. If you've ever tried to coordinate a group cosplay, you know how difficult it can be to get multiple people to agree on a theme, finish their costumes, and make everything come together!
A Creative Disney and Star Wars Cosplay Mashup
One of my favorite things about this Snow White and Luke Skywalker crossover is how immediately recognizable the inspiration is.
The costume takes the silhouette and styling of Star Wars clothing and combines them with Snow White's iconic color palette. Even better, she incorporated an apple into her belt as a reference to the original fairy tale. It's a small detail, but it's exactly the kind of creative choice that makes a crossover design work.
You can look at her and immediately understand what the cosplayer was going for. Both characters are present in the design, and neither gets lost in the mashup.
As a creative photographer, I love seeing ideas like this come together. It's fun to see familiar characters reimagined in unexpected ways, especially when the costume design includes details that connect both worlds.
Why Snow White Fits the Chosen One Prompt
Luke Skywalker is a classic example of the Chosen One trope. But what if Snow White fits that description, too?
At first, she might not be the character who comes to mind when you think of a chosen hero. Her story doesn't involve lightsabers, Jedi training, or an epic battle between the light and dark sides of the Force. But look a little closer at her fairy tale, and there's an interesting connection.
The Magic Mirror identifies Snow White as the fairest in the land. She doesn't choose this role or set out to become anyone's enemy. She's simply living her life, but the mirror's answer makes her a threat to the Evil Queen. Her existence alone is enough to put her in danger.
In this interpretation, the Magic Mirror acts almost like an oracle, identifying someone whose significance will shape the story. Snow White never asks to be in this position, yet the Queen's obsession with her changes everything.
And what about the way Snow White becomes a hero?
Luke Skywalker's heroism is often associated with adventure, combat, and his connection to the Force. Snow White's influence looks different. She cares for the woodland creatures and the seven dwarfs, bringing kindness, comfort, and happiness into their lives.
She makes the world around her better, not by wielding a weapon or winning a battle, but through the way she treats others.
Maybe being the Chosen One doesn't always mean being the strongest warrior or the person destined to save the galaxy. Sometimes, it means being someone whose very existence changes the lives of others.
It's a fun way to look at this cosplay, and it makes the combination of Snow White and Luke Skywalker an especially fitting choice for this Snaptober prompt.
Photographing Snow White as a Star Wars Hero
When I photographed this cosplayer at Phoenix Fan Fusion, we went with a classic, dramatic portrait. She posed with her lightsaber, looking off to the side rather than directly at the camera.
The dark background and spotlight helped create a cinematic look that felt right at home in the Star Wars universe. The lighting draws attention to the cosplayer and her costume, while the pose gives the image the feeling of a character portrait rather than a standard convention snapshot.
Convention photography often means working quickly. While photographing Phoenix Fan Fusion, I was capturing the event and the cosplayers I encountered along the way. There wasn't time for an elaborate setup or an extended photoshoot for every costume.
That's part of what makes event photography so much fun. You get to discover incredible creative ideas in the moment and find ways to photograph them in a way that highlights what makes each character special.
With a costume this recognizable and such a fun crossover concept, a dramatic portrait was a natural fit.
